Why Subway Continues to Prosper

By Maurice LaPorta

While McDonald's and other burger franchises ruled the 20th century, the story of the last decade has been the growth and expansion of Subway, a sandwich chain that can't seem to stop growing. With more locations opening up by the day, Subway is quickly becoming as big as anything else out there. Why have they done so well?

One major reason for Subway's success is the health factor. Subway, unlike McDonald's and other burger chains, doesn't offer food that's loaded with saturated fats, salts, and cholesterol. People appreciate this, as the general public has become more concerned with what it eats in recent years.

A major promoter of the Subway brand, and a huge boost to the company's image, has been Jared Fogel, the young man who decided to go on a diet that simply consisted of Subway sandwiches. He was hundreds of pounds overweight, and successfully lost this weight on his Subway diet.

People also love the affordability factor offered by Subway sandwiches. More so recently than ever before, the five dollar foot long campaign has been a huge success, boosting the company's sales and giving people a reasonably priced food option while the economy is still struggling.

There are few sandwiches of this scope that can be purchased at this price, especially when you consider the free toppings offered at Subway. Having said that, the great price point is a big plus for the Subway brand.

3. Location, location, location. The Subway Restaurants are pretty small. Therefore, they can fit basically anywhere. You will find them in gas stations, strip malls and in towns with less than a thousand people.

With so many convenient locations, people can grab a bite to eat quickly and easily, watching the people make it right in front of you. It's no wonder this is the fastest growing chain in existence. People simply love the food and the convenience that Subway offers.

Subway has shown no signs of slowing down in growth. Jared is still around, the prices haven't gone up and I just saw another new Subway today when I was driving. I guess it's time to go find five more dollars. - 30241
