Many brides and grooms take it upon themselves to distribute chocolate wedding favors to their guests as a token of appreciation. But why should the bride and groom be responsible for showering their guests with gifts? A wedding is meant to be a special day for the happy couple getting married not a day to distribute gifts to friends and family. The guests that attend your wedding should be happy for you, and not expect anything in return.

Wedding favors are gifts that the bride and groom decide on to distribute to their wedding guests as a token of gratitude for attending their important day. The possibilities are endless as to what gifts you can give to your guests.

Chocolate wedding favors have been a favorite for guests for decades. The wedding favors are something that the bride takes upon herself to choose for her many guests. The bride normally chooses something that she enjoys as a token of her appreciation to her family and friends.

The history of wedding favors dates back to the sixteenth century. The practice of giving favors were started by aristocratic Europeans who wanted to show off their wealth to all. The upper class Europeans would give away beautiful gifts that were elaborate and often expensive.

The first wedding favor that was given was a fancy small box that the French called a bonbonniere. The boxes were intended to hold candy and sugars for the guest to enjoy later. Since, sugar was expensive when wedding favors first made the scene many utilized any treats that contained the substance such as bonbons, an old time chocolate favorite. Brides and grooms are seen in many cultures to radiate good luck, so by showering others with gifts this became the way they could pass their blessings on.

The use of wedding favors in a wedding has taken a lot of stress off of the bride and groom. Instead of having to buy each guest their own individual gift, wedding favors have become the perfect alternative. Chocolate wedding favors will continue to be a hit at weddings for years to come.
