The Advantages Of Blooming Teas

By Mark Miller

blooming tea sets is the latest craze to strike the tea drinking set. They are a beautiful alternative to bagged or loose leaf teas and are visually stunning in addition to being delicious. Learning how to find them, prepare them and choose among the many different varieties of blooming teas can allow you to add a whole new dimension to your tea drinking.

Blooming teas are available in a range of different tea types. There are black teas and green teas, both of which can bloom. But what is a blooming tea exactly, and how does one prepare it?

A tea bloom is deceptively simple. At first glance, a dry bloom looks like nothing more than a small handful of leaves wrapped into a ball shape. Like tea bags or loose leaf teas, it is placed in hot water to rehydrate the leaves and to bring out their flavor. Like regular teas, you need to keep an eye on the temperature of the water because a green tea will often require a lower brewing temperature than a black tea.

Blooming teas have more in their favor than just a beautiful appearance. Other than a blooming tea, there are only tea bags and loose leaf teas. While these are excellent ways to brew and enjoy tea, there are disadvantages to both of these methods that blooming teas do not have. Tea bags are the most common and are easier to store, prepare and purchase than loose leaf teas but there are some taste drawbacks.

Loose teas are often more flavorful than a bagged tea because they can be fresher and the loose leaves will allow the water to circulate around the leaves rather than them massing together in one section of a tea bag. However, loose teas can often allow leaf particles to get through into your drink and that is something which many people find unappealing. A blooming tea is the best of both worlds since the water can circulate as the bloom unfurls, and yet the leaves are kept from floating free by the shape of the bloom.

If you are someone who is nervous about the effects of toxins you may not be interested in using standard tea bags. They are often made of bleached paper and some people feel that they are not willing to use standard tea bags. Unbleached paper bags can be more expensive and difficult to find, so a blooming tea may be a great way to enjoy a perfect cup of tea.

Blooming teas also include flowers in addition to the tea leaves. This gives them unique flavors and helps contribute to their stunning appearance. If they are properly taken care of, they are also able to be reused, although the number of times that a bloom can be re-brewed will depend very much on the kind of blooming tea you have selected. Blooming teas are usually brewed in a clear teapot since this allows you to enjoy the look of the tea as well as its flavor. You should always choose a teapot that will not influence the flavor of the tea. A glass measuring cup can work but may not keep the water warm enough to properly bring out the flavor.

If you want to experience a truly unique event, try brewing a blooming tea. No two are alike and you will be amazed at the flavor of the tea and the beauty of the ball used to create it. - 30241
